In June 2026. Having read how Starlink brings the internet to rural areas, I was surpised at slow and intermittent it was in rural Zambia. Just my experience. In fairness, I need to add that I met someone in the sticks who had signed up for a modem/router package and said it was good. But she was paying a lot for it, about ZAR2,500 a month, I think.

How slow and how intermittent? How can it be 300mbps in South Africa? Maybe the satellites there are congested because there are too many users or the interconnections there just suck?

For me, there wasn't. I was connecting onto game lodge networks. Of course, it was far better - at least it was mostly there - than trying to use the internet in the Kalahari Gemsbok Park or Kruger Park! (at least, 2-3 years ago)

Let me guess, gen 2 dish and default router?
Quickly fixed - enable pass through and use your own Router. Problem solved. Gen 3 and higher fixed the router issues.

I was getting 300mbps from South Africa while routing via Zambia.
