Blaming poverty on the poor, wow ... could you have a more elitist and disconnected viewpoint? "Hungry? Let them eat cake, I say." This is right up there with the viewpoint that only lazy people are unemployed or poor.

Spoiler alert, there is no solution to poverty in a capitalist society which has entrenched societal inequalities. At best you're in the working class, at worst you're part of somebody else's black tax.

If you think there is any political party in the world able to uplift all South Africans out of poverty within 20 years, please let me know? The USA ... Trump. Britain, yet another PM. The Democratic Alliance ... constant in-fighting and hardly transformational within the GNU (unable to even address foot-and-mouth disease - never mind rampant national poverty).

We seem to blame the ANC, and climb further up our ass by blaming the voters who vote for them, when if we're realistic we'd appreciate that South Africa worked best for a minority when the majority were being exploited for their benefit. A beautiful working and balanced democratic economy isn't something we've EVER had, and not likely to have in our lifetimes. Blaming that all solely on politicians ignores the role that we as South Africans have in actually being entrepreneurial and hiring people.

Have they gotten worse, or just stretched to serve a massive population they never had to before, and with a tax base that has hardly grown due to a lack of growth in formal employment? I imagine you could provide better water to your household by bucket than you could to your whole town, for a little analogy for you.

I'm not defending the ANC either, I'm not saying they've done the best possible job for this country. But I think they're a convenient scapegoat, as all politicians are, and I think there is a bigger story that we don't always hear because it's just more convenient to sell everybody a pipedream that we are but one election away from all our dreams coming true. We're not.

Do you understand that a failing economy, an almost non-existent public transport system, a currency with annually weakening buying power, red tape at every turn, BEE nonsense...that it's almost impossible to get a business off the ground and keep it running these days?

If the ANC and everything they touch wasn't rife with corruption I'd agree. But their greed has long since overtaken any dreams they might've had of steering this country in the right direction. I'm all for private enterprise driving change, I don't mind politicians skimming some cream off the top - but when those politicians pillage every institution and then expect business and working people to cover their tracks via more price increases and taxation - there's really not much wiggle room for those hard-pressed tax payers to actually create opportunities to uplift anyone.

This isn't about blaming voters. It's about pointing out the failing of the democratic process. This process in its current form is entirely agnostic about the people it puts into positions of power and so we end up with this absurd situation of voters keeping afloat the very thing that stabs them in the back.

How has poverty eradication worked in Cape Town? I presume you will feel that Cape Town as one of the best-run municipalities in South Africa must be a model of the national government we need. I know Geordin will agree with you on that, lol. However, there is a big difference between alleviating poverty through management, and eradicating it in any meaningful fashion. Blaming the ANC for failing to turn South Africa's economy from something it never was into something it never will be, is like blaming them for not turning the very air into chocolate. Yes it feels nice to have someone to blame, but is that blame as warranted as you claim it is? Now that the DA has been in this beautiful GNU for a couple years, is everything raining milk and honey, and if not, why not? Are they equally trash at being politicians, or is the truth that politicians don't create or own real wealth, they just talk about it?

And no we aren't one election away from our dreams but the anc are the core reason this country is circling the drain in many ways, and for the poorest of the poor, voting for them hurts them the most.
