Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid confirmed for SA in 2026
Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has announced the local Land Cruiser 300 lineup will gain a hybrid powertrain option.
Confirmed at its ninth annual State of the Motor Industry (SOMI) conference, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has confirmed it will expand its Land Cruiser 300 model lineup with the introduction of a new hybrid powertrain option. The firm announced the Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid will be available in both ZX and GR-Sport trim grades.
The petrol-electric Land Cruiser 300 package shares its 1MT-HEV powertrain with the Lexus LX 700h, which was introduced to our market in February 2025. As such, the new-energy Land Cruiser 300 will employ a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine, paired with an electric motor that’s fed by a 1.9 kWh lithium-ion hybrid battery. The hybrid setup boasts a combined power output of 341 kW, with 790 N.m of torque delivered to the road via an all-wheel drivetrain – the latter coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
As a reminder, the local Land Cruiser 300 lineup is currently available with the choice of two powertrains: a 225 kW/700 N.m 3.3-litre V6 twinturbo-diesel and a 305 kW/650 N.m 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol. The Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid aims to diversify the flagship Land Cruiser range, offering more power yet improved overall efficiency.

Toyota South Africa Motors has confirmed to Cars.co.za that its recently announced safety recall campaign for certain Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX600 models (which use the internally designated “V35A” motor) will include a full engine replacement.
Earlier this week, the National Consumer Commission (NCC) released a statement announcing Toyota SA Motors had issued a fresh recall. We asked the Japanese firm’s local division to confirm the campaign and indicate whether the “necessary repairs” mentioned by the NCC involved a full engine replacement.
“Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) confirms that it has launched a safety recall campaign for certain Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX600 models equipped with the V35A 3.4-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine,” the company told Cars.co.za in a statement.
“This campaign is part of a global engine replacement programme affecting vehicles produced from late 2022 through 2024. In South Africa, affected vehicles comprise of 507 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 units and 124 Lexus LX600 units,” the company confirmed.
As a reminder, this V6 engine – which is still available in the Land Cruiser 300 range (alongside a 3.3-litre turbodiesel mill) but no longer in the LX line-up (which instead now features the hybrid LX700h and the aforementioned oil-burning unit) – generates 305 kW and 650 Nm in SA-spec guise.
