In the early evening today I encountered this pop-up on opening my phone.
It sat on top of my lock screen. It was impossible to close. It blocked my fingerprint sensor. It prevented me from restarting or shutting my phone down. When I tried that my numerical keyboard appeared greyed-out behind the pop-up. I have no idea where it came from. It was not an SMS. I allow very few apps to send me notifications.
I was reluctant to touch it but eventually I tapped Cancel and it went away ... at least I hope so. It hasn't reappeared.
There was nothing about it in my notifications. I'm not finding anything about it using internet searches.
Any ideas? Anyone else had a similar experience?

Ahh, I get it now: it's the "Y'ello" that's the MTN clue.

Those usually comes from the SIM Toolkit or service provider. Later Android versions have become a lot more stricter in controlling lock screen notifications. Just to be sure, Google WASP services for your network and how to cancel them.

It's afrihost. They piggyback on mtn. I'm also afrihost.

The scary/wonderful thing is that there is likely a 0.001 hit rate on crap like this. So someone saw that and was like: Hmm my heart is speaking through the guitar, so I will pay R5 a day.

Thanks a lot. Knowing that what it's called is a lock screen notification helps a lot more than the literal spam you plastered all over my display here.
