Tech blunders paid R5 billion to the wrong students in South Africa

President General of the South African Union of Students, Siyabonga Nkambako, believes ongoing systemic issues at the National Student Financial Aid Scheme were to blame for a R5 billion blunder.

The Auditor-General of South Africa recently said regulatory audits of the scheme's allocations in 2024/25 had revealed that some 40,000 students did not qualify for funding.
