Iraq is the latest country to launch SpaceX's Starlink satellite Internet service

I am very surprised that the Iraqi government is allowing Starlink to operate in their country after the CIA used it to attempt a "regime change" operation in Iran in January. It could also be used to assist the CIA with assassination attempts on Iraqi government and militia targets.

Starlink is currently only available in those Middle East countries in which the US has a strong military presence and not in those that oppose their operations in the region.

Starlink has not been granted access in Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Libya, Iran, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Pakistan, India, Turkey or Afghanistan etc. because of security concerns. It is only available in government controlled parts of Yemen and not in Houthi administered areas. It should be no surprise that Starlink will soon receive formal approval in Venezuela having been "unofficially available" while Hugo Chavez was President !

The article is confusing in some ways. It states that Iraq has launched the service, but later on it says that Starlink has activated it but that it did not get an official launch.

The big thing here is that even if Iraq didn't green light it or allow it the CIA still have the satellites in the air and can still use them for whatever purposes it chooses. The other thing is that Starlink is operational in every single country its satellites pass over whether the government of that country allows it or not, so it's not a case of operational or not operational, the system is operational 24/7, some countries allow their own citizens to access it, other don't. If the US were for example to launch an operation in Houthi administered area's they would be using Starlink by default for both surveillance and communications, it's only the Houthi's and the civilian population that wouldn't have access to it.

That's because a third world country like Iraq actually requires it. I just saw a banner ad for Axxess 4G offering 25 GB for R99. Who in their right mind would want Starlink in a first world country like SA?

You must have fallen off the back of a bakkie as a child if you would even consider paying R6700 for the kit alone. I suspect some of you did.

The irony is that the kits don't cost a cent. It's included in the package as long as you do a 12+ month commitment. You have no idea what you're talking about, as per usual.

Even if it did cost R6700 - that cost is nothing for the people that truly need the connectivity. Do you have any idea what cellphone boosters cost? Have a little look. Have you seen what people spend on Iphones or top tier Samsung devices? Starlink is a drop in the bucket.
