Good news for people thinking about getting DStv in South Africa

Canal+ Africa CEO David Mignot says the company plans to grow long-term, sustainable DStv subscriber numbers through low prices and its sports offering.

Speaking to CNBC Africa, Mignot explained how the company aimed to replicate its strategy with sports coverage on Canal+ in other African markets to lure and maintain customers on DStv.

They've tried before, SA majority 'aint interested enough in DStv. Some hopped on board here though, years ago. I mean think about it; they only have about 6 soccer channels already..

It did work, the lower packages that show sport were picked up and are the majority of the numbers. Premium is the one that fluctuates over a mill and under a mill. But the lower packages aimed at the demographics did work. Problem is DSTV measured the wrong metric itself. Premium numbers are just that premium, you should focus on the lower packages to get in more money.

Yes, years ago. Neither segment is growing.
Two different markets. Their serious profit has come from the higher tiers.

It's not hard to be competitive with soccer offerings.

I think they know they have to separate sport, but to do so now would be a disaster IMO.

Not sure if there is other footie they can add. They may be testing one more channel, not sure yet..
