Best news at Eskom in 9 years

On 20 July 2026, state-owned power utility Eskom recorded a daily Energy Availability Factor (EAF) of 80.24%, the highest since 20 September 2017.

The national power utility said the milestone was the result of its Generation Recovery Plan, which it launched in partnership with the Minister of Electricity, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, in March 2023.

If no one used electricity the EAF would be 100%.
Wow look how well we are doing.
Give everyone a 20% increase for doing their JOBS.

The installed capacity is 55GW.
Only 30GW available.

These clowns must go back to school and learn some basic MATHS.
If it wasn't for solar ESKUM would be in deep kak right now.

Uhm no. If they have 50GW installed and they can provide 50GW that means they have a 100% EAF.
Demand has nothing to do with EAF,
EAF = (Energy Available / (Maximum Export Capacity * Hours in the Period)) * 100

Maximum Export Capacity (48 GW): 48,000 MW
Total Potential Energy (24 hours): 48,000 MW Ă— 24 hours = 1,152,000 MWh
Target Energy Available (80% EAF): 1,152,000 MWh Ă— 0.80 = 921,600 MWh
Average Available Hourly Output: 921,600/24 =38.4GW

So if demand was 0, Eskom could still supply 38GW if needed

That's not how it works. EAF measures is supply side, not demand side. EAF has no bearing on demand.

Does not reflect what home owners generate.
Who do they bullshi...t .
