I have never driven in a bespoke Chinese car brand. Well, actually, Chery, but that was during the 2000s.

For me, the Chinese brands must still prove themselves. The same way I was against Hyundai when it first was introduced in SA. I waited many years before getting a Hyundai, the Getz and it was a great little car for what I needed. So I will consider getting a Hyundai again if I plan on getting a new car. The Chinese need to show that their brands have staying power and they need to build up trust. That doesn't happen overnight.
same, as a fellow Getz driver see all these weird and wonderful Chinese brands that look copied and pasted from Mazda or Toyota and wonder to myself
is it a bad copy or a good copy and do they stand behind their brands?

or do they just create another one when the one has a bad reputation,
and what happens in 10 years, will any of them get to be easily fixable and reliable like the Getz,

I highly doubt it with all those screens and displays and EV High voltage circuits die

only reason they do well in SA is cause Saffers like shiny things, rarely look past the shiny things to the underlying mechanical.
I mean has any rental car companies taken on fleets of Chinese cars?

I was just starting to think about trusting them when Chery invested in Rosslyn.

It shows they do intend sticking around and there are so many of them on the road now the after market parts will pick up.

With that said my suspicions were again confirmed when a friends Tiggo broke down for about the nth time (I've lost count). Each time it went into the dealership and they 'fixed' it but it would just do the same thing two weeks later. Apparently the on board computer didnt have a useful log of the issue so each time the 'techs' were left scratching their head. Only when she complained on social media (they have a big following) did Chery actually do something and OFC they asked her to remove her social media post before they fixed it (they didn't ask directly but it was clear what was going on).

I have noticed this before and mentioned it on this forum where those videos of the Tiggo rear axle falling off seemed to have vanished off the interent besides for one in Russia.

play hardball with people, very nice, even in China as much as they hate the Japanese and Koreans,
they still pay more to drive their cars in China.

Haval has been here for 20 years….

As a Haval owner I’d likely look at BYD or Geely when the time comes for an upgrade.

Unless Haval come to the party with a similar sized all electric.

To be fair, this isn't unique to the Chinese brands.

All modern cars are heading this way, even the entry level cars have screens.

The days of searching Youtube on how to make backyard Magyver repairs on your car are coming to an end. Most modern cars are designed with chuck away and replace in mind anyway and the ''mechanics'' that are trained to work on them are guided by diagnostic machines, which tell them what part needs to be pulled out and replaced, so even troubleshooting is a dying skill.
