Ramaphosa dashes Eskom's hopes of keeping control over grid

President Cyril Ramaphosa has endorsed a landmark report by the Eskom Restructuring Task Team (ERTT), setting out the framework for establishing a fully independent state-owned Transmission System Operator (TSO).

The report sets the stage for a restructuring of the electricity sector to “create competition, unlock investment, reduce electricity prices and ensure energy security for sustained economic growth and job creation.”

The generation is anyone including you and me including access to wholesale market with dynamic pricing.
Transmission stays the same under new management/ownership.
Distribution to be opened up to competition so that you can choose someone else feeding your house other than the city or eskom direct but still using same cables.

Whatever else. Where electricity is concerned, Ramaphosa has done right by the country.

And it's not nothing. At all.

Especially considering that the ANC's "broad church" seems to have so many factions that love monopoly, central control everything and at all cost, and of course the associated rent seeking opportunities.
