Oh wow, the only thing they doing right

Keep going and excel at it.

Pretty sure that is how promotion in criminal organisations work, from the Mafia to the ANC that has always been the way.

I don't think this is any way good. There may still be some honest people trying to win a vote via wanting to make actual change at the low levels. First step is come a ward councilor or a local leader. If the crooks kill those people and take over I don't see much positive outcome unless its to hasten the ANC's demise perhaps. Politics being dominated by the most ruthless (AKA those willing to murder to get power) would mean a much harder group of people to dislodge one day. Unlikely someone like that will walk away quietly to allow a replacement to investigate their past doings. I really hope they manage to catch people doing this and chuck them in jail. Its not the kind of country you want to live in.

Been that way ever since they started paying Councillors big bucks for doing fokoli

The ability to direct tenders is also a big factor

The murders are emblematic of the culture inside the ANC. They are simply not used to the idea of putting the best person for the job. All government positions are is a resource extraction. That is it.
