Johann Rupert's fibre company goes from hero to zero

The Internet Service Providers’ Association's (ISPA's) latest fibre network operator perception survey revealed that Internet service providers continue to view Vumatel poorly.

Johann Rupert’s investment holding company, Remgro, owns a significant stake in Vumatel via a 57% stake in Community Investment Ventures Holdings (CIVH).

I don't think that their service level is sub-par, but their pricing isn't the most competitive unless you live in a Vuma Reach or similar area. Add to that the price increases and hidden fees they've been trying to implement over the years such as penalties for downgrading etc.

Their Fibre network is good quality, but their business practice is a bit dodgy. I think their goal has always been to consistently expand and become the monopoly in the country, so that they can implement monopolistic policies to maximize profit aggressively.

The installation is also dodgy, they got a reputation in dirtbin for shoddy work, and for seemingly being able to find, with unerring accuracy, every single water line, sewer line, power cable and any other buried cable infrastructure. Also wherever they went nothing metal was safe, your brass close to the street vanished, any metal manholes vanished, and any brass water meters went, and they would regularly find every single cable, putting a pick through it. They were banned from the municipality, because you would find at least a dozen municipal vehicle doing by the area they dug, replacing infrastructure, and repairing damage, and they never actually reinstated anything, just put the dirt back instead, and never followed up, making every homeowner hate them as well.

Honestly had never had an issue with Vumatel or Telkom.
