Electricity "service fee"

Seen this mentioned a few times now and noticed it as well this month. Seems to happen on the first topup of the month, though I don't recall it ever being this high. R300 topup....only R195 worth of electricity. FFS - just over 1/3 gone on vat and service fees.

Eskom direct "service & admin" fee is per day based flat rate - R5.74/day on homepower standard. There's also a "network capacity" fee, "generation capacity" charge and some other dreamed up nonsense.

Not sure. I'll top up as usual this month and keep track of what the service fee does - if it changes amount etc. Then maybe try another site next month although it is just super convenient doing it via FNB.

I was an Eskom Direct customer... got the thing changed to prepaid, couldn't handle the bill shock anymore. Life's been good ever since.

So far this year I've had one correct postpaid invoice. They always manage to screw it up somehow.

Yes screw it up they did and threaten with disconnection. The one month they went that far and we had to borrow money to get them to stop.
I went from using R10,200 per month, to less than R2400 per month.

You should first confirm if you are indeed supplied directly by Coct and not via a third party provider like PEC for eg. If third party they can charge what they want I think?

Think it's this place. Their details are on all the meters and the building electricity account gets paid to them. Unless they just manage the account. Not 100% sure.

I suggest you make contact with the managing agents of your block of flats and request a breakdown of all your electricity purchases as well as an explanation of the service charges and tariff.
