Canal+ confirms rights for Springbok-All Blacks tour matches

Canal+, the South African Rugby Union (SARU) and New Zealand Rugby (NZR) have confirmed the broadcast rights agreement for Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry to be shown live in South Africa.

The agreement also covers the pay-TV giant’s Rest of Africa market on SuperSport on DStv and GOtv, and includes all four test matches between South Africa’s Springboks and New Zealand’s All Blacks.

I was thinking good news maybe they will show it on Access or something. So no good news. I don't think it was ever in doubt Supersport will show it because I mean in SA it's supersport or sabc that needs to broadcast with their equipment from the stadium.

Would be crazy if Supersport doesn't show it.

Exactly what I was thinking. What is the good news? Broadcasting something that you have done for decades at an expensive price to a limited population is not good news. not even news.

65 dollars a month with Sky Starter, for the first 12 months, whereby it then goes to 77.99 dollars a month. None of those are R570 a month, plus it's just Sky Starter, if you want movies it's 85 dollars a month for the first 12 months and then 125 dollars a month.

And M-Net, Kyknet, Discovery, History Channel, Food Network, BBC and Ignition.

Seeing some of the prices overseas, DSTV Premium is only bad value compared to illegal IPTV providers who will give you the world for half the price.

Movies seems to be the big costly thing, looking at the NZ package to throw in entertainment on the starter pack and sports is 85 dollars for the first 12 months, sure that's R815, but after that it shoots to 125 dollars a month.

Okay, I don't watch all of those things.

My biggest problem with DStv is that they don't allow custom bundles. I only watch certain sports, not all of them. I only watch certain entertainment channels, not all of them.

Its like going to McDonalds and being forced to buy their entire range every month as the only option. But you just want a Big Mac.

DSTV premium is the best value for money compared to any service world wide. No one can dispute that.

The problem comes in when you only watch some sport then suddenly you feel the price is getting expensive.

I watch cricket, rugby and darts. I don't watch movies even pirating movies I don't do that I do like reality shows and series. Now suddenly R979 or R799 is not enough and I need to add for PDC TV and other stuff like netflix and disney etc.

Now suddenly the Sky Sport NZ package and a netflix sub is looking like better value for me.
 
I imagine they're announcing this due to the scare they caused by dropping the Winter Olympics.

So the good news - now they're scared.....

I only watch Rugby and F1 of that selection, so too expensive for me.

Watched most of the Winter Olympics on YouTube, was not on SuperSport.

I get F1 from F1 TV, and Rugby gets a pass. Unless I happen to be visiting elsewhere (Spur ?).

Netflix, Prime Video, etc cater for movies and series.

And if you think about it Multichoice knows this. They know if they start unbundling people that follow only certain sports will downgrade to lower packages and they will lose revenue, so they force Grandstand, Golf, Tennis, Cricket and Rugby to premium only packages to have a more consistent revenue generation.

Exactly. But they can only play that game for so long. Methinks in a few years at most they'll have to unbundle further.

Ok Sky Sports Now is not Sky Go, it's a separate thing. Sky Go requires an actual Sky TV account and billing. Sky Sports Now is a pass system that allows you access to streaming for Live sports. It's a semi live streaming service for 60 dollars a month, this is also all it has access to

So you're still willing to pay over 500 bucks for a limited streaming service, with limited sports?
The Stan thing, it's also limited to 1 stream, plus limited sports as well and ads plus it's still over R300. This is why DSTV is expensive in the first place, it's not only sport you're getting, plus the variety of sport is far wider.
