Thinking of selling RTX 5090

Ever since cryptomining, the only question a GPU seller has to ask themselves is whether they want to sell for profit?

Warranty on gpus are largely irrelevant. They last forever. If you need cash then sell it.

Else get n cheaper gpu. It will pay off in the long run

It by large depends on who the interest party is. By the year 2031, a new flagship GPU will likely be in the ballpark of $2000. By then, it should be three consumer generations later. If you need the vRAM for productivity, now, then sure, R60k is likely a small change.

As far as I am aware, the bubble is not popping anytime soon. Even here in South Africa a LOT of money is being pumped into AI infrastructure with some running projects deep into 2028.

Yeah. Bubble aint gonna pop. Thats why im saying this level of gpu will not lose value anytime soon. Expect the prices to just climb for the foreseeable future. I'd be very surprised if you see new gen gpus anytime soon. The money is going to server grade stuff.

Basically, enjoy your last pc upgrade. You wont be upgrading again, ever

New consumer gen is incoming because the 'silicon' is already made. It is just that the cycle for new consumer architecture is extended. AMD is definitely moving forward with RDNA 5, and they have their new-gen consoles on the horizon, and after that I do expect them to go back to their SKU refresh strategy. Nvidia is not far from releasing their Rubin-class consumer products. The raster ceiling will hold for a while, but I do expect realisable gains from 2030 onwards. By then, AI adoption will have matured, not popped. Consoles will dominate the gaming hardware market for three years (2027-2030). Clearly a very expensive Steam Machine isn't throwing people off from high pricing. Either people can still afford a lot, or a whole lot of debt is being created.

Anyhow. If the OP wants to sell his GPU. It is a free market.
 
I originally bought the GPU for R48K, the price now is R75K on Wootware, so if I sell it for R60K it is a decent profit

Planning on downgrading to a 5070 as 5090 for my needs is a bit excessive

If that is your plan, then you can factor in a decent profit and gain (from downgrading to a 5070), but I would if you are going Nvidia, and is eyeing a 5070 then I will wait for the SUPER (which will be the SKU refresh) or rather go 5070 Ti. Otherwise, just go RX 9070 XT.

I can't tell you for what you should be selling your 5090 for. It is worth a lot though.
 
Start at R60k and work down from there, the market will soon determine it’s value, whether that is R60k or not.

Wait. It's going to worth a fortune once the current stock dries up. A warranty ending January 2029 is looong, people would only start caring when it's under 6 months.

The cheapest 5090 any distributor has at the moment is over R 80k cost price, and there's a very big increase still coming later this year.
