MultiChoice shutting down 4 DStv channels in September

MultiChoice SA LicenceCo is shutting down M-Net Movies 1, kykNET Lekker, Mzansi Bioskop and Mzansi Music as part of the ongoing review of the DStv channel portfolio.

The channels will cease broadcasting at 23:59 SAST on 16 September 2026. MyBroadband understands that the content aired on these channels will remain available on others.

Removing the biggest complaint of repeats.
The more channels with similar demographics will have content creep and you can't keep things running 24/7 without repeating content.
So closing channels that are notorious for content creep limits the repeats, or at least the perception

If MonoChoice is going down, then I am happy- that's what it's about for me.

Strange that they would get rid of MMovies 1 instead of 2, but then again the Frenchies used to make their car door locks work in reverse, lol

And odd that they would drop KykNET Lekker - it's the exclusive, only KykNET channel for their beloved Access package :-/


Other changes - some SuperSport channels being renamed;

Alongside the September channel removals, Canal+ is also rolling out a round of SuperSport channel renames from 18 August 2026. Variety 1 becomes Football+ (channel 206), Variety 2 becomes KickOff (207), Variety 3 becomes Africa (208), and Variety 4 becomes Action (209). So, at least 2 more soccer channels, and at the loss of some of the additional sports being regular. This will annoy quite a few of the mid-range packages' audience.
