Investigation finds failures in South African BEE council

The council was investigated following several allegations, including governance failures, financial misconduct, and the deposit of funds into private accounts.

It sounds like it was working as intended, no?

BEE after all is nothing but a means to enrich a select few.

While rumours had circulated about the financial misconduct, no council member had any first-hand knowledge about the allegation.

Of course they didn't, because all the council members are probably guilty of something so they can't exactly point fingers.

This just means there's not enough BEE...

Holy fvck, ChatGPT actually believes we need more BEE.

If by turbocharged BEE you mean using transformation policy much more aggressively to build capable black businesses, managers, professionals and institutions, then I think there is a strong case.

My view

South Africa does need a more ambitious transformation strategy, because the underlying economic exclusion that BEE was designed to address hasn't disappeared. But BEE cannot substitute for competent administration.
