The South African mathematician who went to MIT and co-created the language many programmers learned to code with

Acclaimed Pretoria-born mathematician and computer scientist Seymour Papert co-developed the Logo programming language in 1967 and was a principal for the One Laptop Per Child initiative.

His storied career took him to Cambridge, Paris, and Geneva, and from pure mathematics to education theory and pioneering artificial intelligence research.

I quoted Papert a lot in my own MSc on use of simulation in engineering education (back in 1987). I enjoyed reading his research and reference to Piaget. I had no idea he was South African.
