MTN South Africa struggling to make money from skyrocketing data demand

Declining data revenue growth in South Africa has prompted MTN Group to move network capital expenditure toward other markets and make substantial changes to its local business.

An analysis of MTN Group’s financial performance in South Africa from 2020 to 2025 revealed that Africa’s largest telecom is facing a data usage-to-revenue paradox in its home market.
 
I've got a great solution for their calls reduction problem, and our spam calls received problem: Add a "report spam" USSR code you can call after every call received, or SMS received, in which case the spammer gets hit with a 50x tariff.

And call it "Please don't call me".
 
Those number seem to imply that people are now actually using the data that they pay for. This is not how things are meant to be.
