20 years ago I was certain that as the education levels of the masses went up that they would vote more intelligently ,and hold the ANC more accountable.

It hasn't happened, not to any significant extent.

Yet I wouldn't completely dismiss the possibility of the ANC gone in 10yrs time. It depends on just how bad things get here. The masses don't vote based on what's likely to happen, they vote based on what is currently happening to them.

Exactly! We better hope some of the more radical parties don't come into prominence.

Unfortunately, as long as people are stupid enough to engage in populism, we're not going to get better leaders - real leaders make though calls that's not necessarily good in the short term but, takes into account the long term benefits.

Sadly, I don't see us returning to logic given that everything that has held society together for thousands of years like decency, respect, being considerate etc. is now seen as superfluous.

A split vote may help with a few balancing efforts, but given how these guys "work together" it's highly unlikely.
