ANC stalwart’s attack on Afrikaans university the foundation of a totalitarian state

How does a Afrikaans exclusive University advance non-racialism? The overwhelming majority of students at this University will be white with some token coloureds. Don't cry when someone notices what the expected outcome would be and then complain about her making these statements. Language is racial in SA. A all Zulu University will have a 100% only black student body. None of these ideas advance non racialism so I understand her critique.

If we are going to start building only X Universities or only X e hailing services we are going back down the road of creating something that looks like the apartheid system. I think that is what she is getting at and I partly agree with her.
Just go away. You are the proof that a 30% pass rate makes people stupid. Have a nice day.

There doesn't need to be many people like that. Look at Musk. You just need one or two with money and power and you have a problem. I genuinely don't have a problem in principle with a Afrikaans University. I do think there is a slippery slope though where bad actors can use "Afrikaans only" for nefarious purposes which might be what Pandor is alluding to. That this could lead to toxic silos which I think is what Jonathan Jansen critique of this was. I understand the idea behind mother tongue language but there is a part of me that thinks this is not healthy. If you go to a Afrikaans only primary school then move to a Afrikaans high school and then end up in a Afrikaans only University. Does that make you a rounded individual in the South African context where you are never exposed to other languages and cultures? You end up in a job where you will work with other races. I wouldn't want to let me kid grow up in such a insular environment. This goes for everyone not just whites. But that's just me.
There. That part in bold. That is all that matters.

That is what any normal, rational, personal-liberties loving person says.

Not Pandor though.

She has a problem with certain people being taught in their mother tongue. Rights and dignity for me, but not for thee.

It's like talking to brick walls. Why would a Zulu kid want to be taught in Afrikaans? A language they can't speak and probably wont need to speak once they are in a professional environment.

There are more non-white Afrikaans speakers than white Afrikaans speakers.

According to data from Statistics South Africa based on Census 2022, more than half (56%) of all Afrikaans home-language speakers are Coloured, while White South Africans make up 40%, Black South Africans comprise 4%, and Indian/Asian individuals account for about 0.2%

It is an effort to be freed from the disregard and even oppression of a monolingual state culture in higher education

Jeezus. Is Afrikaners the biggest ****ing snowflakes in the world at the moment? Will this be used to cry to daddy Trump of how oppressed they are being taught in English? Embarrassing group of people.
As an English speaker I am happy to tell you that if English speakers were told they were going to be taught in Afrikaans the uproar would make this look like a normal day in the park, lets not pretend that any group is more or less snowflake than any other.

No one is crying man. Afrikaners need to take time out and relax and stop thinking everything is life and death

You can keep being naive and pretend some whites with power and money that want a return to something like Apartheid doesn't exist while I will keep living in the real world.
I would suggest you read these posts again and then Google the word "irony".

Now go and iron your All Blacks rugby shirt...it's nearly time.

Is she wrong though? How naive are you that you think some especially those in Afriforum don't see this as a way to exclude others?

Tell me, what would the racial makeup be of a only Zulu University?
Let's see, majority of Zulu speakers are black so it would be a majority black university.

Similarly with an Afrikaans university, majority of Afrikaans speakers are coloured, so it will be a majority coloured univer...

Oh wait...

Never mind, that did not work out, I will see myself out.

It's a private institution, government can built as many public universities as they want, Xhosa's and Zulu's and Pedi's and whoever can also build as many private universities with their languages as they want

But the question is still interesting, care to answer it? Because you chose to answer all the questions that were never asked, he didn't ask if it was a private university or not, he didn't ask if a Zulu, Pedi, or Xhisa university could be built or not.

Already been answered.

Also note, you're using terms like "all Xhosa" or "ONLY Afrikaans". We're talking about Afrikaans MEDIUM and Xhosa MEDIUM educational facilities here. It's about the language you teach in. It has nothing to do with the ethnicity of the students. There is nothing stopping an ethnically Xhosa kid from applying to be a student at this university. They just need to be fine with being taught in Afrikaans.

Do you think coloured students would be excluded because of their skin colour?

Would you disagree if I put it to you that all Afrikaans things, coincidentally or not just turn out to be more white than Afrikaans despite the Afrikaans having nothing to do with race?

Freedom Front, Solidarity, Afriforum, Soltech, Wanatu, pretty much anything you can think of that claims to be Afrikaans, even this new university will also be more white than it is Afrikaans, wonderful coincidence?

I don't know, I want us to work together in unravelling the mystery, how is it that the majority of Afrikaans speakers are not white but the majority of Afrikaans things tend to be majority white even though being Afrikaans does not mean white as proven by the number of Afrikaans speakers?

How does BBBEE advance non racialism?
You don't understand how a policy aimed at narrowing the inequality gap between whites and blacks caused by deliberately disadvantaging one racial group while promoting another
contribute to advancing non racialism?

I am honestly afraid there is nothing more I can help you with.

How does an exclusive Afrikaans university advance non racialism?
It's not really about non-racialism. An Afrikaans medium university helps preserve a language and culture.

The non-racialism, the free democratic society in which we all tolerate the beauty of our diversity, that part comes in when we DON'T CRITICISE OR FIGHT AGAINST someone wanting to preserve their language. Wanting to be taught in their language.

These people are doing nothing wrong. It's wonderful that we live in a country where they have the freedom to do this. Trying to fight what they're doing is frankly, disgusting behaviour.

Would I have a problem with this university if it were publicly funded? You bet I would. The state must cater to all people. It's not publicly funded though, so frankly, it's none of my business. It's just people exercising their Constitutional rights. If you have a problem with that then the problem is you, not these people.

Okay, I am happy with that, I was just wondering why the question was being dodged, if it doesn't advance non racialism and it is not it's intention to advance non racialism, then fine.
