Eskom board chair Mteto Nyati has said the utility's transmission assets will "come at a price" that the South African government shouldn't be spending right now.

Speaking to 702, Nyati emphasised that the utility supported a reformed electricity market with increased competition and access for all participants.

What's he on about? South Africa already owns Eskom's transmission grid.

The transfer is just an accounting problem.

Make no mistake - even after the split it is still the same shareholders, same people and same company. Everything this company does is calculated to extract as much from the public as possible.

What is happening now is they are talking their book. They will shift the charges as much as possible to where they still have the complete monopoly - the transmission network - and continue to milk it. That debt is going to be shifted to transmission as much as they can and will be accounted as cost if transmission. And your bill will eventually reflect it as such.

I kinda agree with him. Electrical engineers wont get eskom to work. Think of them as tools that need to be directed by someone with management and project skills. Electrical engineer will blow the budget trying to make everything perfect and fix problems that are not high priority.

PM will ensure that the project is done on time, to budget etc. I worked with a lot of very very smart Engineers and they almost all suck at the management and project side of things. I am one of them. You cant have an Electrical engineer running a company unless he has business accumen.

Thats why project managers get paid more than engineers. A spanner (engineer) is only as good as its user (the Project manager, client and managers)
