Chinese cars, are they as bad as everyone thinks?

Why doesn’t Autotraders test version have the LCD countdown display in the parking lights, like the one on the JMC adverts from Facebook (see post #3637).

Or can we now confirm Chinese car companies are so kak they use the free version of chatGPT to create thier adverts
You sure have a hard-on about this point eh?

Anyhow that is obvs some "clever" dealer ad trying something for clicks & foot traffic.

OEM factory models do not have that "item".

Leapmotor B10 debuts as Mzansi's least expensive range-extended EV

Stellantis-backed Chinese brand Leapmotor is expanding downwards with its new B10 ‘Hybrid EV’, which has become the country's least expensive range-extended electric vehicle (REEV).

It’s available in two variants, with the B10 Style priced at R499,900 and the B10 Design retailing at R549,900, effectively undercutting the base price of the larger Leapmotor C10 by R275,000.

Like its C10 sibling, the B10’s wheels are turned exclusively by an electric motor, which in this case produces 158kW.

While REEVs are sometimes considered to be “the best of both worlds”, there are various pros and cons. In this case, an 18.8kWh battery allows a claimed electric range of 86km, which is significantly shorter than a typical EV range. The upside, however, is that its 1.5-litre petrol engine, which acts purely as a generator, extends the driving range to around 900km.

Customers of the new B10 can choose from five exterior colours, including the ‘Starry Night Blue’ launch colour inspired by Van Gogh’s The Starry Night. There are also two interior themes to choose from.

Speaking of the cabin, the Leapmotor B10 features a 14.6-inch HD central touchscreen as well as a modern digital interface, seven airbags and 17 ADAS driver assistance systems. The safety argument is also backed up by a five-star Euro NCAP rating.

Leapmotor B10 REEV (2026) Price & Specs

SA orders for the new Leapmotor B10 REEV have opened, with this Chinese-built crossover generating 158 kW and featuring a starting price of just under R500 000…

- Stellantis launches 2nd Leapmotor model in SA
- New B10 REEV kicks off at just under R500 000
- Rear-mounted electric motor generates 158 kW

The Leapmotor B10 REEV is poised to hit the market in South Africa soon, with the Stellantis-backed Chinese brand having now officially opened orders for its latest range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) crossover.

As a reminder, the Leapmotor brand entered Mzansi in October 2025 with the launch of the C10 REEV. Stellantis owns a now-19% stake in the Hangzhou-based firm, as well as a 51% majority in “Leapmotor International”, an Amsterdam-headquartered joint venture between the 2 companies that takes care of the brand outside of China.

According to Stellantis SA, the Jinhua-built B10 line-up will comprise a pair of derivatives at launch, each featuring a grade familiar from the C10 portfolio (Style and Design). The B10 REEV Style is priced from R499 900, while the B10 REEV Design starts at R549 900.

In each case, the REEV system includes a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine, a rear-mounted electric motor, a single-speed transmission and an 18.8 kWh (seemingly gross rather than net) lithium iron phosphate battery pack.

Only the electric motor – which offers peak outputs of 158 kW and 240 Nm – powers the rear wheels directly, with the Atkinson-cycle petrol engine instead acting solely as a generator (charging the battery pack when required). The company lists a 0-100 kph time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 170 kph.

Stellantis SA says the rear-wheel-drive B10 REEV’s battery pack offers “up to 86 km of pure electric range”. Thanks to the range-extender petrol mill and its 50-litre fuel tank, the crossover’s total claimed range comes in at “up to 900 km“.
