Proposed rules for 10-year driving licences in South Africa published

Le sigh. I have to go in for my license renewal appointment next month...

Hilarious that such basic bureaucracy causes so much handwringing and difficulty for them.

Pretty pointless anyway given that we share our roads with so many clinically retarded citizens.

And there is no element of law enforcement which isn't systemically corrupt.

(OUTA) has long supported extending the validity of driving licences. It said that extending the term to 10 years would better align South Africa with other nations.

Such a BS statement ... can't we just do wtf we want without looking at other fncknut countries.

mine is due this month!! was hoping it could fit into this window, but then I remember I actually scored during COVID when they suspended it for a few months then.

And I can't exactly wait for this bill to pass and then go renew - because if I'm in an accident whilst my license is "expired", my insurance won't pay a cent.

Im in the same boat. Mine expires in Sep and went to renew about 2 weeks ago.
But knowing how slow wheels turn in government, even at my next renewal in 2031, the validity will still be 5 yrs while they debate how to recoup all that revenue they going to lose with 10yr validity
