Poor WiFi speeds Samsung A50

I’m at an airport in the US and trying to watch IPTV on the app on my old Samsung A50.

Problem is, using Speedtest on my iPhone 17 I’m getting a solid 8 ping and about 70Mbps, try the same on the A50 and it’s taking ages to find a connection and then the ping is ridiculous and the wifi speed barely registering at about 0.13Mbps.

Is the A50 just old using outdated hardware or is there a setting I’m missing? I’m an iPhone user but the IPTV app is Android only so I use it when I travel but lately it’s been super slow. This is the first time I’ve tried to use it at this airport so can’t compare to previously.

the A50 is pretty ancient at this point, so i doubt it supports wifi 5 & 6.
that said I dot think that would make it so slow.

I figured it was lack of support, time for a new one I reckon.

The A50 supports WiFi 5, so that is not the problem. I think the OP just had a bad connection, or bad settings.

I have an A32 which is only 2 years more recent (2021 model), but it has almost identical specs, and performs well.

I disconnected then connected the iPhone and the Samsung several times. There’s something screwy with it and I can’t work out what it is.

The iPhone is flying along, the Samsung not.
 
Provider hardcoded app so can't use something like UHF or Snappier or IMplayer?

It’s not like these normal IPTV setups, it’s an app with everything built in and it’s only a username and password access. Works a treat on my firestick at home.

So because it’s Android only I grabbed an old phone from the drawer and installed it on there.

But the issue is not with the app, it’s with the phone. Speeds are shockingly slow compared to the iPhone beside it.
 
Before dissing the phone, run a proper check using something like WiFiAnalyzer (VREM) for Android. After that look at WiFi settings, such as Security, Not-metered, etc. Unless the phone is broken, or has an expired security certificate, nothing makes sense.

Edit: When you install WiFiAnalyzer, the only permissions it will ask for are Location, and Nearby Device Scanning (More Connections). This is important, and the app will not work properly otherwise. For various reasons Android considers WiFi scanning to be a security/risk/privacy feature, and limits the number of connection requests per second (which defeats the whole point).
