Fikile needs to hear himself speak for a little bit, and to blame Apartheid and uGogo for things, oh and promise everyone that they'll be better and fix all the things they fscked up.

Yeah, the police are corrupt and have many problems but many of the core factors contributing to the levels of crime are not really policing matters, like GBV and what the General Mkhwanazi was alluding about murder suspects being granted bail and committing other murders while out on bail.

We are failing elsewhere and the failures manifests at law and order level and then we blame the police.

We should not blame police. They are locals after all and they deserve all the protection from us tax payers. Just like we supported local Zuptas.

We should blame them, the most important thing is to understand which role they play in the value chain, they are not responsible for everything that is wrong in the country.

Everyone knows who was responsible for most things wrong in this country but everyone still keeps on meeting the corrupt chief of Nkandla in the hope they get some crumbs of his influence.

My goodness this is the 3rd such celebration of mediocrity(if that), behind-schedule housing project you have brought to the table asking why our people would vote for Zille.
It is quite simple really, and at the risk of repeating this for (I think) the 4th or 5th time now: "It is because the other options are so shyte"

(and it is Her Excellency The soon-to-be Mayoress Zille if you please)

The problems with the police start at the top. Of course other problems like there not being enough prisons, lax sentencing laws, lax bail as well.

Not to mention the huge amount of effort spent by the SA government on disarming legal firearm owners and being obstructive about private security.

I actually have a wild idea on how you could fund a mega-prison rollout. Build the prisons with way more capacity than you could ever need, and then offer prison-as-a-service to first world countries as a place to dump their lifers and gang members. You could probably charge 2.5x as much as what we spend on a prisoner to first world countries and it would still be substantially cheaper for them.Since each foreign prisoner pays for them and 3 other local prisoners, it would be self funding

Literally a win-win scenario. And SA is likely one of the few third world countries that has the combination of cheap labour, cheap land and a robust legal system that protects prisoners rights.

there is a bit of a tango to dance here.
the justice dept can only prosecute on evidence (related to the crime) and evidence on the criminal profile details as presented by the police to prosecution authorities - justice dept is hamstrung.

on the other hand, saps is battling with short and dwindling resources required to present the level of evidence required by the courts.
hell, we even have someone right here on the forum with us, who's daughter was murdered over a year ago - and this drags on because of delays at the saps forensic laboratory - the longer a case drags on, the weaker it becomes.

so while saps is battling to cope, our politicians continue increasing budgets for blue light brigades, and other vanity projects.
we are indeed failing - we, the people - have chosen to elect a bloated govt providing sheltered employment for ppl wholly unqualified and unskilled for the positions they hold.
a govt that also had it's health dept addicted to, and dependent on hand-outs from far away lands.
a transport dept owning one of the most extensive rail systems on the planet - a now collapsed system - may as well action off it's remains to the chinese.
i could go on, but it's friday afternoon.

indeed, we are failing, and will continue to do so should we insist on traveling the same path.

What are your thoughts on this?

The DA are not in government there - the people don’t vote for them. Yet, they used their own money from the campaign to replace the transformer so people can have some basic dignity. The ANC has not looked after its people for 14 months there.

This is hugely embarrassing for them and all politics aside - I think even you can agree this is something you’d not see from other parties.
