Vodacom and MTN explain why phone contracts have become expensive in South Africa

They force you onto a higher contract just to be eligible for the phone you want. My next contract offering is half the data and an increase of R150 from the last. Then when I decided I will bite the bullet, Telkom and MTN's site are not even offering the Samsung S26 Plus? Only Vodascum offering it.
 
From a quick google search:

MTN Group CEO Ralph Mupita received a total pay package of R99.3 million for the 2025 financial year. This record package included a base salary of roughly R20 million, a short-term cash bonus/incentive of R29.5 million, and R48 million in vested long-term share incentives

Vodacom Group CEO Shameel Joosub received a short-term incentive (bonus) of R26.9 million for the 2026 financial year, reflecting a 25.5% increase from the previous year. His total pre-tax remuneration package reached R137.4 million, heavily boosted by R74.6 million in long-term incentives.
