Last year there were already so many fires far to close for comfort.

Actually quite worried about this summer if there is gonna be even less rain.

As a Joburg resident, this city is a disaster waiting to happen since we're simply not equipped for a proper long term drought.
I've already started mentally planning for what to do when the taps run dry.

The other night we were on a body corporate call with a guy from Borehole Africa. The dude said that one of the main sources now that feeds the aquifers in the area is simply run-off from burst pipes (it takes a few years though to make it down there). I thought he was joking at first, but apparently he isn't. How nuts is that.

In a potato field in Yanggu county, 80 miles (130km) north-east of Seoul, Lee Sang-hyuk dug into the soil and found nothing worth saving.

A week earlier the crop, located in Gangwon province, had looked fine. Now the potatoes came up soft and collapsing, “like boiled potatoes”, spoiled by heat that had turned the ground into something closer to an oven.

“It’s not just one or two fields like this. How can I even put it into words? It’s so upsetting,” he told local broadcaster SBS.

His ruined harvest is one thread in a punishing summer across east Asia, as record heat swept through South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong in recent weeks.

Except of course that pretty much all of their money comes from the government via cities and law enforcement, so its really just the usual USA thing of outsourcing government functions so the people who own them can benefit.

You can't use the efficiency of a private entity as a metric of government efficiency. The ANC would be top notch, because Raubex got a road built in one year instead of three.
