I couldn’t tell you. I’m not a comrade with tenders and thus don’t hang out with a lot of rich folk.

But if you think these people will suddenly have a working transformer and one that won’t be overloaded anymore because the government makes them pay for it; I have some ice to sell you.

The reason there is no electricity there is because of illegal connections, Eskom has rightfully stood firm and refused to replace the transformer until the defaulters have paid their fines.

The process should be followed to the letter as per the Eskom process, the DA did not have to buy a transformer, but since they did, it is still fine, it will save Eskom some money.

Not being principled is a wild thing, it looks like you view has suddenly changed because Zille and the DA are involved?

Can't say I disagree with Eskom's actions here. If they replace that transformer; it's just going to blow again due to the illegal connections (Yes, I said connections because it's the same thing) - so this is their way to force compliance.

And your whole attitude to the whole thing stinks too.
Get the majority to pay and stop being scum-bags
I hope Eskom wins this fight.

Nope. I am not forced to stick to whatever opinions I held 6 years ago, Champ. Do you still stick to whatever opinions you held as a child?

No, I don't necessarily stick to opinions I held as a child, but wouldn't you find it strange if I suddenly thought Zille is now the best mayoral candidate for Joburg?

It would be odd, wouldn't it? So I am finding you change of heart regarding the stance Eskom took, that you previously supported very odd, hence I am curious about the reasons, would the fact that Zille and the DA is involved have something to do with the change of heart?

Where has my stance actually changed?

I still stand by what Eskom are doing. Totally understand their position. So that’s not changed.

I still maintain the majority must pay for electricity - that stance is unchanged.

What I disagree with is a government letting their people sit without power for over a year and refusing to intervene at all.

If you look at my previous posts in this very thread - I agreed with you on the matter that the DA replacing it won’t solve the issue. That it will just overload again. Same stance I had in 2020 that it would just overload again.

However at least the DA is willing to intervene and get the problem resolved. Regardless
 
The right Reverend is in the house contrary to news reports, apparently no successful candidates will be announced, all mayoral candidates who applied and passed the preliminary selection process will be announced, share their vision and they will be given space to go to communities and campaign then oy after that will the successful candidates be announced.

Probably why it's a 5hr event.

You literally scolded the poor guy, said he had a bad attitude and he needs to get the defaulters to pay. Definitely did not sound as sympathetic as you do now when the DA and Zille are involved.

What a long schlep, this is why nothing happens with any urgency in government, it starts with this sort of culture. By the time these guys go to the communities, come back, go through another round of selection, announce who the actual candidates will be, it will already be election day.

This is actually even worse than not announcing anyone at all. Because all these guys going into the community will be campaigning for themselves first, then for the party. The last thing that the communities want to deal with is even more factionalism...

This is going to spectacularly backfire because while it might prevent open division within the ANC's many factions, it's also likely to depress turnout for individuals who want to vote for a particular individual but not attached to the ANC as a whole.

To this day no one knows who Zille was competing against to become the DA's candidate, I say this is a transparent democratic process that should be welcomed by anyone who believes in democracy.

She was chosen by her party's leadership, who were democratically elected. The people of Joburg are welcome to agree or disagree with that decision through their vote.

Going into the community to try and get elected as a party candidate, then asking them to vote again for that person on election day, is just a waste of everyone's time. What happens if the person that the community wanted doesn't end up being the mayoral candidate? Now they've been dragged into factional BS, while still not having water, electricity and waste removal.

Anyway it doesn't help debating it here, let's see what actually happens when they do it...
