Say goodbye to spam calls in South Africa

Sure sure.

Yet just this weekend I got some voucher spam from Truworths which I’ve never bought anything from in my life.

No option to opt out…but a link to their T&C’s of course.
 
Truecaller is nice but it wants to do too much. Any alternative to this, I just need to look up the numbers.
Samsung Native support to identifying a spam call is sufficient.

Used Truecaller for a few years, it was great at preventing me getting spam calls more than once and stopped the two or three weekly spam calls I did get. My phone at the time didn't have a block facility as standard so I was happy. Changed phones at the beginning of this year and started using Samsungs built in call block function. Have only blocked 2 numbers and receive one or two spam calls a month now. Strange that.

Samsung just uses another version of Truecaller called Hiya.

Placebo I reckon.

Hiya is no different to Truecaller in how they operate.

More than likely the fact your previous phone didn’t have a native block function, as all these apps use that to do the actual blocking in the background.
 
Wasn’t POPIA introduced which makes provisions for legal data retention etc.?
 
Blah, blah - we've had an opt-out registry for years, no one cared about it because you had to agree as a company to adhere to it. Since enforcement in SA is non-existent, why would it work this time. Because politicians premises us it will be different this time? Bwah, haha!
 
We will never be rid of spam calls. I have been receiving more spam calls the last few months and I'm also registered on a Do not contact list.
