The article appears to indicate why this was the case.

‘They did not care if they were caught as they knew they were underage and that there was little the courts system could do with them.

‘It’s becoming a growing social media trend and it’s been a nightmare for gardaí to police because they are often ordered to stand down from pursuits because of the danger that chasing these guys could put the public in.’

The system won't adequately punish nor engage them and they knew it.

This article further sums up why social media is a complete cancer on society and young people should be banned from using it for their own safety and the safety of others.

The newspaper quotes security sources as saying the teenagers were part of an increasing number of youths trying to ‘one up’ each other in dangerous videos posted to social media.

Yeah, it's a tough one. Pursuits are often stood down due to public endangerment.

I agree with the rest - changing times perhaps call for changing protocols in dealing with the problem.

That's interesting I googled that and they are not related to the Romani which are what most would recognise as the traditional "Gypsies" who migrated from India many hundreds of years ago.

Yep. Even in the US, where police often conduct themselves in a far more aggressive way, they frequently disengage from high speed chases.

Social media has had an undeniable impact on how people behave, specifically in areas on risk-taking and just being stupid. And while it may be easy to say let Darwin weed the stupids out, the stupids often harass and harm people who are just minding their own business.

I didn't smack my kids and they haven't gone cascading down the highway on the wrong side of the road, while wearing balaclavas and pulling gangster signs. They actually appear to quite well adjusted, despite me being their dad. Weird I know.

Maybe I'm not their dad after all... 😳😳😳
