(Ireland).Five teenagers dead in car crash after vehicle driven wrong way on motorway

I didn't smack my kids and they haven't gone cascading down the highway on the wrong side of the road, while wearing balaclavas and pulling gangster signs. They actually appear to quite well adjusted, despite me being their dad. Weird I know.

Maybe I'm not their dad after all... 😳😳😳
I am sure there are people who justify smacking their kids & wives. I don't get it. Never been smacked and will never do that to my son.

Also, some people here seem to take "pride" that they were smacked (a lot) when they were young. I don't get that either.

100% agree.

Bogwashed them in the loo of course, like any decent parent would. No joy riding for them though! /s

In reality - sent them to their rooms mostly.

They had a parent who cared, and disciplined them, though. I imagine most of these problem youngsters come from shitty household environments, with little to no parental care, discipline or affection.

Then they go to school where they cannot be controlled either. I will always be a proponent of the good old caning. It taught one a proper respect for the rules. And authority.

And, yes, I also believe a (good) society depends on a moral and fair set of rules, and adherence to them.

Yeah, I agree with most of that. There seems to be a perception here sometimes that a lack of smacking = a lack of discipline, whereas delinquent behaviour results from a lack of discipline of any kind.

The Middlesbrough incident has taken a turn - check out all these arrests! 😳

Organised crime arrests as police investigate Middlesbrough crash that killed two police officers - BBC News

Nasty bunch:
Four of the five people in the Passat, which crashed into the police car on Saturday had previous convictions, including for assaulting police officers, Cleveland Police has revealed.

Cole Worthy, 17, had admitted offences including assault of a police officer, using abusive language to cause harassment, alarm and distress, and driving without a licence and insurance.

Makai Saddington, 18, had also been convicted of assaulting police officers, had pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment, and was caught with a knife and a class C drug.

Seventeen-year-old Theo Rae's offences included 12 for shoplifting, thefts from vehicles, assaulting a police officer and aggravated vehicle taking.

Not sure about that, both of these incidents involved peeps driving stolen cars...

Not just stolen cars, they had cloned number plates, and there were two cars driving together. One of the cars rammed the house of the father of one of the boys:
Before the crash at 03:39 BST on Saturday, police had received multiple reports of two cars driving dangerously around the town and a Volvo XC60 was seen ramming properties.

The BBC understands that, after his father's home was rammed, Worthy and the four others set out in the Passat. Police said they were linking the activities of the Volvo XC60 and the Passat.

There is no suggestion Worthy's father was involved in criminal activity.
Both vehicles were operating with cloned number plates but were picked up by automated number plate recognition technology.
