MG previews new all-electric hatch with MG GO! concept

Set to make its debut in 2027, MG has previewed its upcoming all-electric compact hatchback with the MG GO! concept.

MG Motors has unveiled the GO! concept. The Chinese-owned British automaker whipped the wraps off the GO! at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Though officially unconfirmed, this B-segment battery-electric (BEV) hatch, which is due in 2027, could be named ‘MG2’, reports have suggested.

Finished in a vibrant matte body hue, the five-door concept car features pronounced wheel arches, a rear diffuser and a wing. While MG remains tight-lipped on technical details, what is known so far is that the GO! is approximately 4 000 mm long – shorter than the MG3 and similarly proportioned as the new Renault 5. The latter and Mini Cooper SE will likely be its rivals.

The retro-futuristic styling was inspired by MG’s youthful designs from the 20th century, such as the GT, Metro Turbo, ZR and EX4. Said Design Director of Advanced Design at MG Design Centre, Carl Gotham, “With MG GO!, we wanted to create something compact and contemporary, but also warm, expressive and immediately likeable, an embodiment of all that we admire about the MG brand.”

 
MG shows future direction with Cyber and GO! concepts at Goodwood Festival

While MG is firmly under the control of Chinese auto giant SAIC, the brand certainly hasn’t forgotten its British roots and what better way to showcase its two latest Euro-focused concepts than a debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

MG used the world’s largest garden party to pull the wraps off two new electric concept cars over the weekend, with the new MG GO! and MG Cyber design studies pointing the way forward for the brand.

MG Cyber Concept

MG says its Cyber Concept is a “bold exploration of what a future D-segment performance SUV can become in the electric era.”

Essentially it previews a future model in the company’s large SUV line-up, while drawing some inspiration from the company’s EX181 land speed record car from the 1950s.

The brand hasn’t released any technical details about the upcoming electric SUV, but given its name and that MG is already throwing the “performance” label around, dare we suggest it could share a version of the Cyberster’s electric drivetrain, which delivers 250kW in single-motor guise and 375kW in dual-motor format.

Nonetheless, its exterior design could certainly influence other SUVs in MG’s portfolio, as MG’s design vice president Jozef Kabaň hinted at the reveal event:

“Great design begins with people, not products. Technology and innovation are essential, but they can be shared. Character cannot.

“The future of automotive design is about creating cars with a strong identity that people instantly recognize and emotionally connect with. Great design should spark curiosity, excitement and desire. It should make people stop, smile and want to discover more. Our MG concepts express this vision for the future of the brand.”

Will the next MG HS and ZS models take a leaf from this design book? We certainly hope so.

 

MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV launched at Rs 25.70 lakh - Team-BHP​

JSW MG Motor India has launched the Hector Tomahawk PHEV at prices starting at Rs 25.70 lakh (ex-showroom). The 7-seater plug-in hybrid SUV is also available with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option for Rs 21.79 lakh and Rs 3.20 per km battery rental.

The Hector Tomahawk PHEV is based on the ADAPT platform. It is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated Atkinson cycle petrol engine that makes 101 BHP and 125 Nm. It is paired with a 20.5 kWh battery and an electric motor that generates 198 BHP and 237 Nm.

The SUV comes with four driving modes: EV, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid and Engine Direct Drive. In EV mode, the electric motors drive the wheels, and in series hybrid mode, the engine recharges the battery.

In the parallel hybrid mode, both the engine and electric motors power the wheels, while in the direct drive mode, the engine powers the wheels directly to minimise losses. The vehicle automatically selects the optimal mode depending on the driving conditions.

MG claims a maximum range of over 115 km in pure electric mode. With a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, the SUV can cover more than 1100 km.

The Tomahawk PHEV comes with a 3.3 kW AC charger, which can charge the battery from 10-100% in 7.5 hours. It only takes 35 minutes to charge the battery from 30-80% using a 25 kW DC charger.

Bookings for the MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV are now open. Deliveries will begin in November.

 

MG Hector Tomahawk electric SUV launched at Rs 19.49 lakh - Team-BHP​

JSW MG Motor India has launched the Hector Tomahawk. The new 7-seater electric SUV is priced at Rs 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It is also available with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option with prices starting at Rs 13.99 lakh and a Rs 4.90 per km battery rental.

The MG Tomahawk is based on the ADAPT platform. It has a tall stance with an upright front fascia, featuring LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs and an illuminated MG logo. It has a two-tone rear bumper, wraparound LED taillights, and it rides on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

The Tomahawk EV is available in 5- and 7-seat configurations. It has a beige and black interior with a two-spoke steering wheel, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre.

The electric SUV comes equipped with several advanced features such as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a driver’s seat with memory function, ambient lighting, a powered tailgate, vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) functions, and more.

The Tomahawk EV comes with a 69.2 kWh battery pack, which powers a single electric motor that delivers 201 BHP and 310 Nm. MG claims a maximum MIDC range of 517 km and a 0-100 km/h time of 8.2 seconds.

The battery supports fast charging at up to 90 kW. It takes about 35 minutes to charge the battery from 30-80%. A standard 7.4 kW AC charger takes 12.5 hours to charge the battery from 10-100%.
