Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 7

Edit. Neighbours have confirmed they're down. Different isp.

Orange light on our router. Cape Town, Claremont. Anyone else having issues?

Hi, No alerts I can see, please log as normal in case it isnt related to a larger outage.

Having extra stability between LIS <> LON will be very beneficial for those of us who play Blizzard games :)

Would also appreciate this. I play Overwatch on EU servers, mostly AMS1, and my ping is normally between 165–175 ms from JHB using the Paratus route. However, this weekend, a competitive game would start at that ping and then randomly spike to around 190 ms in the middle of the match, with IND going above 50.

It sounds like that might be unrelated to the LIS <> LON path, I don’t play Overwatch so I’m not 100% sure if they perhaps use AWS or Google Cloud which would be separate (non-CISP) transit. The LIS <> LON path felt very stable this weekend, I know WoW mostly routes to Blizzards servers via LINX, and classic WoW occasionally uses Google Cloud, but in that case the Madrid VPN works best for that scenario.

Yeah is more than likely the paratus link going down at that point.

Hi @CoolEscalator. Could you take a look at this ticket for me? Thanks.

HI there, thank you for reaching out.
Unfortunately we cannot change your previous package , instead you would need to order a Data Only package from the website.
You should be able to input your address on the website, and it should give you Data only or Line + Data packages.
Please select the package in accordance to what your current Line speed is configured to with your current ISP.
For example, if you have a 100/50 mbps link with your ISP, and you order a 500mbps Data Only account, you will still be capped at 100/50, thus you would need to select a 100/50 Data only package instead.

EDIT:
I do however see you are still using your previous link (Balwin) PPPoE details on the new Openserve line already, thus once this link is cancelled, would I recommend applying for the Data Only Package, since you have already essentially paid for that link this month.
As this Balwin link will now be a problem for the new tenant who wants to activate their services, since Balwin will only release the line End of October (End of September if they allow it), and needs to be cancelled.

@CoolEscalator
I only see package offers with Lightstruck and no data only packages.

Yes tricky one, as Openserve wont be available on the maps. And you are sure Telkom has exclusivity?

@CoolEscalator see if the connect team can manually create an order with the new address for the data only account, or we would need to place it from an Openserve area.

That's pretty odd, as you are able to use your existing Balwin PPPoE details (so they dont block other ISPs at least), not sure why the package option would not be there for a Data Only account.

It could be that Openserves Coverage map block other ISPs from showing packages due to your ISP lock mentioned.

I will check with our team to see if there is a manual workaround

@NickZA_ would you mind sending your address on the ticket? Many thanks

Edit: Our Connects team has also confirmed they can do a Data Only account for you :)

@CoolEscalator @PBCool . Thank you. Yeah it is a very weird setup here. They claim that you "can use any ISP" but no ISP lists this area. Even Openserve's own website states that there is no fibre in this area. I have tried to dispute their claims many times but it falls on deaf ears. They have no idea whats actually happening, they just regurgitate what Telkom tells them.

@CoolEscalator I have added my new address to the ticket and also on my cisp profile. (I cant update/remove the old primary address though.)

Very odd setup indeed.

Thanks I have informed our Connects team accordingly :) Someone should be in contact as soon as possible.

Hi @CoolEscalator my internet connectivity just died. I've logged #COOL-20260902-2770193.

Currently using my Vodacom 4G/5G package from Cool Ideas as backup.

Thanks.
