I have successfully paired two CBI Astute Smart Controllers to my Tuya Smart App, but I've just purchased two CBI Astute Smart Plugs and I have battling, without success, to pair either one of them to my Tuya Smart App.

I have re-read the instructions, but no luck.

I assume, in the Tuya Smart App, I manually select the Socket (WiFi) device under the Electrical section?

I even installed the CBI Smart app and had no luck there either.

I am pulling my hear out in frustration - can anyone assist me?

Hold the button in for a good 30 seconds until it slow blinks and shows the SSID.

Then choose any device and try to add it and choose the slow option and it will pair.

Thanks. I tried that but, even after holding the button in for over a minute, it kept blinking fast and did not start blinking slowly, nor did any hotspot appear.

I’ve got loadshedding starting soon, so I can’t do much more until later.

It was a bit fiddly but could be you need to just watch it and release it when you see it slow down.

Worth trying turning the isolator button off, holding the power button then turning it on.

No matter what I try, I still cannot get it to pair. Not sure what I am doing wrong or what I should try now.

Ok, I made some progress. With a bit of perseverance, I held the button down for ages and it started blinking slowly and I saw the SmartLife hotspot appear on my phone.

The problem is : what is the password for SmartLife?

You use the app to connect to it, not manually.

So once you see it then it’s in pairing mode.

Now to add the device in the app and choose the slow option and it will connect itself to the AP.

This seems to be a hit and miss affair. I’ve tried a few times again by pressing the button for a few minutes at a time and I can’t get the slow blinking to start. The rapid blinking eventually stops and a solid red light appears.

When I got the long blinking blue light in my earlier attempt , I heard a click just before it appeared. Not happening this time, but I will keep on trying.

Eish, I’ve got two more plugs to do after this one.

There’s a definite window in which you want to release it when it starts slow blinking.

If you hold it forever the relay will just trigger eventually.

But by default you don’t ever need to press the pairing at all, the first time they startup they are already in that mode.

Success at last!

Now for the other two plugs.

Thank you to everyone, especially SauRoNZA, for guiding me with the process. Much appreciated.

They aren’t very clear at all in the manual.

I’ve just done enough Tuya stuff to have figured out the jam by now.

Rockstar thread. Been struggling, and always gave up, to get the CBI pool timer into one app. Had it in CBI app for ages. It worked. But it was separate.
It does eventually go into slow blink. And on smart life chose Wi-Fi -> slow blink. And boom I got it!
My pool timer is now in HA too.

Thank you!

I recently ran into problems while trying to add a CBI Astute ASC switch to SmartLife / Tuya. I eventually got it connected by scrolling down to "Add manually" and selecting Energy - Switch Module (Wi-Fi). Perhaps similar options can be used for other CBI Astute products.

You should embrace the dark side and move to Tasmota or ESP Home :) Pairing problems will be a thing of the past.

A huge thank-you to Phil64.... I did not know there were other options.

My experience to add the CBI Astute ASC Switch to the Tuya app:
Open Tuya app
Add device
Search for "Switch" and select Switch (Wifi) (Don't scroll down, type it in the search box)
Select Fast blinking on one of the next screens.

On the Tuya (be very patient)
Hold the bottom button for a slow count of 10 (small round button)
Hold the top button for a slow count of 10 (Power button)
(On my one cbi I could see the lights changing colour.... on the other it was trial and error)
