Im still stuck on why flyby wasn’t with our national airline (whats left of it), at least we know those airbus planes are stupid proof as was proven during the vanity covid vaccine flight where they almost crashed after taking off on the return leg, thank **** the computer said yes.

From the flight forums they were at lowest 10 meters+- above the stadium, which should be correct, when you see the 2nd plane flying *through* the pyrotechnics/smoke.

Sounds a bit too low, given I'm not allowed to fly a drone within 50 meters

If you had permission and were well experienced you will be allowed to fly a drone inside the stadium.

There were multiple videos posted from various angles, not just static photos. The one aircraft flew through the smoke plume from the pyrotechnics. That one was definitely too low IMO, the other was borderline OK.

Did you actually watch any of them, or are you just quoting your 'expert' friend?

BTW, the 1995 RWC flypast was pre 9/11. Safety standards and public perceptions have changed since 1995.

Edit: Also weather conditions are very different when flying from sea to land, and near hills and mountains.

See lots of people online praising the skill of the pilots and am sure they are, just doing this so low leaves you with no margin for error in the case of an unexpected down draft and passenger jets are nor super responsive. Just seems like a huge risk to thousands of people to do something that, although spectacular isnt really unique or special anymore.

Hopefully they put a stop to this, or failing that put in some restrictions on how low these planes can go.

I read somewhere in the discussions that the CAA floor for Cape Town stadium is 200 ft, which is about 35 ft above the stadium roof. Going by the available online pictures, this adds up.
