Two Airlink Embraer 190s perform dangerously low flyover at Cape Town’s DHL Stadium

Yeah 30% pass mark maths boffins online have made the calculations and have concluded that based on their extensive pilot experience - “it was dangerously close” … fvck off. Go dance on TiKtOk or something.

Where do you get that 3 hours information from? The FlightRadar24 article (linked above) states that the total flight time (at least for one of the planes) was 1hr 11min:

That press release has been posted several times, and commented on several times (including by myself). As we all know, there is a difference between a CYA statement and actual evidence.

Actually the stadium is not exactly at sea level, and the numbers do add up (barely). However there is a difference between what is permitted and what is prudent. Since barometric altimeters are only guaranteed +/- 50 feet, this is uncomfortably close.

In reality we will never know the exact numbers, since nobody with the skills is going to analyse all the parameters. P.S. It's a bit like the blue/gold dress saga, people see what they want to see.

Safety and preparation. I am going to assume they did everything they could to fly correctly and safely but mistakes were still made. Hopefully this gets investigated so they can do it safer on the future. Better to learn how to prevent accidents than just saying nothing bad happened. I like flyovers and love airlink, but this seemed a bit too dangerous.

Hoping in the future they do more awesome flyovers. Loved it that they used two planes.
 
A concern is that the clearance over the stadium was 41 to 46 feet, which is about half of this aircraft's wingspan. This means that the aircraft would have entered ground effect in this area, which can cause the nose to pitch down. Since this is transient the severity of the effect is debatable. The aircraft can however be seen to be pitching down in a couple of the videos, but it is uncertain if this was due to the ground effect or simply pilot inputs. It is however ill advised to enter this flight regime immediately over a packed stadium.

Unlikely that they spent 3 hours practicing on the day itself. The weather was crap at 2pm, and only cleared around 5pm. The discrepancy is probably due to a 2 hour time zone difference (GMT vs local time).

If they had crashed in that stadium - big problems for people below or if they had crashed after flying over that stadium we'd see 1000s of deaths. I don't think that was worth the risk.
