Where do you get that 3 hours information from? The FlightRadar24 article (linked above) states that the total flight time (at least for one of the planes) was 1hr 11min:

Data shows that ZS-YDE departed Cape Town International Airport (CPT) at around 2:10 PM local time, followed just minutes later by ZS-YAE.

I'm assuming the article is wrong. As you say, the GMT offset makes sense.

Just out of curiousity, I decided to edit (and zoom) the Milnerton webcam image, superimposing an estimate of the 200ft altitude. Whichever way you interpret this event, the pilot's windscreen view must have been super scary as they approached the bulk of the stadium:

If they had crashed in that stadium - big problems for people below or if they had crashed after flying over that stadium we'd see 1000s of deaths. I don't think that was worth the risk.

The first photo is definitely not CT, probably Ellis Park (mine dumps in the background).

P.S. They definitely must have been flying drones and/or helicopters to get some of those angles. Which adds another layer to the complexity of the scenario...

What is even worse is drone pilots who also cause near crashes by not following safety procedures. but that is a topic for another day.

This flyover highlighted a disaster waiting to happen even at higher altitude.
I think the era of low flyovers. especially from big commercial airplanes have just ended.

One of the things I love about south Africa is we're still allowed to take our own risks. We don't have some over eager nanny government restricting every piece of decision making. The eggchaser guy actually mentioned this in a video too. He was up on a mountain and said he'd never be allowed to do that in the UK due to their over eager safety regulations.
