It's over 50 degrees so we're good plus with the heat pump it's better circulated 55 degrees vs a normal geyser with an element where the bottom by the element is hotter than the rest. As it also circulates the water vs just sitting in the tank.

So let's say a R200 saving p/m.

Less the R149 p/m subscription= R51 saving p/m
Cost of unit: R849 / R51 = 16 months to break even.

Eh.
 
Nothing wrong with my geyser timer. I just need to lag some pipes - thats my biggest waste.

According to most sites, >60C ensures bacteria can't breed in the water heater. I keep mine at 75.

I used to have a fancy solar-connected "smart" thing that was supposed to take into account sunlight, solar production on my Sunsynk etc etc via some home-assistant integration they installed. It was a dumpster fire of unreliability and was just a giant pain. One of their so called smart devices also almost caught fire it was burnt through when the electrician i called came to figure out why one of them wasn't coming on. I finally just had it all pulled out later and installed Cbi Astute switches and they come on the same times each day connected to normal thermostats.

As someone who uses and loves Home Assistant, I will never get someone who's not "really into it" to get a home assistant setup with anything. F**ing thing will undoubtedly at some point cause problems, I've even had problems where hard reboots didn't work to fix an issue, and the only thing that worked was an entire reboot of my house from the db board.

Kind of ironic?
  • At 50°C, Legionella bacteria survive but stop multiplying. They do not die.
  • At 55°C, it takes roughly 5 to 6 hours to kill them.
  • At 60°C, 90% of the bacteria are killed within 2 minutes
Keep your geyser at 55°C-60°C
