SARS can take money directly from South Africans’ bank accounts

Nope they issue you a payment request, which sits there waiting for you to go and approve it.

Really? I've seen people complain that money got taken without their permission or input.
Weird, though this does indicate people basically ignoring SARS even when they send them notices and such. So basically this is when SARS has tried getting their money and still being ignored.

If SARS wants to start earning real money, the simple solution is to force all public transport to go cashless.

I think SARS can reach in automagically, but there needs to be a specific set of requirements and I'd assume some sort of judgement against the person/entity.

Yeah reading the article it's basically the ones where they've tried a few things to get their money. Basically if you ignore them they be like hey we're taking money.

They will take what ever is on the letter / payment request if you do not contest or contact SARS to enquire.

You have a certain amount of time before, once that passes they take what they want, end of story QQ !!

FYI banks / companies are not allowed to interfere with SARS and their mandates.

Even if you have R1000 in your bank account they have the facility to take the R2000 you owe and leave you with a negative balance which you need to fit the bill to the banking institutions in fees or what ever else.

thought so, Newsday must be digging deep to cause panic and hatred
Digging deep because forum engagement is tapering off sharply.
What did they expect though, did they really think that the people on here would tolerate AI slop and go click the bait?
