SARS can take money directly from South Africans’ bank accounts

Good luck to them my bank account is in overdraft and m credit cards are maxed out.
SARS wont deduct from Credit Cards, only from banking accounts.

The same bank account you give them for when you do your returns they will use ( what account your pay goes into ), they will also take the amount and leave your account in the red regardless of overdraft or not having enough.

You will be liable for the fee's for that.

If you do not have an overdraft or the overdraft limit has been reached, that is quite impossible.

Nope, plus the bank will nail you for being in the red.

SARS mandates surpasses everything - if your bank doesn't allow their debit they will be taken to court, fines, legal fee's, raped, necklaced or whatever you want, in fact they are powerless once the debit has been issued by SARS.

Any bank account can be overdrawn savings, cheque and even investment accounts. You will be held liable with some nasty fees for being in the red especially on your personal accounts like savings and cheque accounts.

Go ask your bank if you don't believe me ( I use to work for a bank so )

EDIT: Why would you let it get to that point anyway ?
AI Contempt of Court: If a taxpayer ignores formal court summonses or civil judgments related to tax compliance, a judge may issue a warrant of arrest for contempt of court

SARS can deduct whatever funds up to the limit you have available, what they cannot do is deduct funds if there is no funds then have your bank make you liable to pay them back. An agreement settlement will be required to be made between you and SARS.

My wife owed them money, we paid it last year and the year before. They saw yesterday the money was paid but they did not subtract it. They put a note and ask someone to do that and to decide about the interest we had to pay for not paying.

I know how SARS works I'm afraid :(

That's why you need to contest or contact them if you receive correspondence stating you owe money. What I was referring to is if you do not do anything about and just leave it then they will take what they want, as an example if you have R500 in your savings account and you owe them R800 for late submissions they will take that R800 off your bank account / pay regardless of how much is in your physical bank account. That means you'll have a red balance of - R300 in your bank account which you now will be fined / or pay heavy overdrawn fees.

SARS are ruthless now my friend - they cracking that whip hard this year, even if you owe them R10 bob !! they coming for it.

taxation is extortion

why are people surprised that extortion rackets don't care

SARS cannot take more money than what is currently available in your bank account, but they can take all the funds that are present up to the full amount of your tax debt. You cannot force the banks to burden the debt owed to SARS.

    • Credit Balance vs. Credit Limit: If your credit card account is in a positive balance (meaning you have deposited or overpaid your own cash onto the card), SARS can potentially target those actual funds held by the bank.
    • Borrowed Credit: SARS cannot "take" money that you do not actually own, meaning they cannot force your bank to let you draw deeper into an approved credit card facility or loan limit to pay a tax debt, because credit card limits represent the bank's lent money rather than funds held for you. However, they can target active savings, cheque, or positive-balance accounts managed by that same banking institution.
