DStv plans to launch dedicated sports package in South Africa

Premium's price drops quite a bit doesn't it?

F1TV and for the rest I have BIL TV (Brother-in-Law TV)...

MultiChoice told MyBroadband in 2025 that it was investigating unbundling its SuperSport channels as part of a broad review of its channel composition to address changing consumer preferences.

The pay-TV broadcaster said it had accelerated efforts to explore potential changes to the composition of its DStv packages.
That included considering whether certain bundled elements, such as SuperSport and general entertainment, could be offered differently in future.

Contacted for comment following [this] leak, the MultiChoice pay-TV broadcast service licenceholder in South Africa declined to confirm or deny its accuracy.

Media briefing has been scheduled by MC for Monday the 7th.

The info found suggests that much of the structures will initially stay the same, just separate new movies/series and basic-sports choices they'll be trying.

Launch expected 2 weeks from tomorrow.

And when I mentioned that people want sports for R200 I got laughed at.

Hard to believe, I guess some are living way in the past.

I'm actually surprised at the AI response, says to me that DStv is somehow cheaper. But we don't know what specific sports Sky offers so may not be.

Sky doesn't cover all the international events as by law in the UK those events must be on Free-to-Air.

Sport lite actually
Exactly. Without the biggest sport in the country, what's the point of this option? They still haven't learned to give the people what they want.

People don't support them because they see better options. What they've tried to do was limit people's options. Now, they present something as though it's something special, but it's so stripped down that they might as well just leave it. Don't bother.

True, but at least we should get all the premium sports on their "Sports" package.
DSTV calling it a sport package but it lacks all the important sports.

Fair comment. I guess that's just how big business works.
I still think we'll see proper cricket and rugby on their own later, but I doubt together.

But it's what I've been telling people, sports is the biggest expense on DSTV, especially the premium stuff. Technically all this is doing is re-labeling some old packages by the looks of it.

I'm sure they'll do more fine tuning later, for now they seem to just be experimenting with how separation could work. And adding their own style to make DStv truly theirs.

People will be the judge, voting with their feet will decide where it goes next.
