New Mitsubishi Pajero

The image is the **new 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero** (not the current Pajero Sport). Australian RRP, announced today, is:

- GLS 5-seat: **A$68,490**
- GLS 7-seat: **A$69,990**
- Exceed: **A$79,990**
- GSR: **A$84,990**

(all before on-road costs)

It replaces the Pajero Sport and sits on the Triton platform, aimed at Ford Everest / Toyota Prado rather than Fortuner.

### Current Triton vs Pajero Sport gap

**Australia (RRP)**
- Triton GLS 4x4 dual-cab pickup: ~A$60,140
- Triton GSR 4x4 dual-cab: A$65,590
- Outgoing Pajero Sport GLS: ~A$57,640
- Outgoing Pajero Sport GSR: ~A$65,590

The old Pajero Sport was similar in price to (or slightly cheaper than) an equivalent Triton. The **new** Pajero is a clear step up: GLS 7-seat is ~A$9,850 above Triton GLS; GSR is ~A$19,400 above Triton GSR.

**South Africa (current list)**
- Triton GLS 4x4 AT double cab: **R759,990**
- Triton Athlete / Xtreme 4x4: **R849,990–R859,990**
- Triton Bi-Turbo 4x4: **R959,990**
- Pajero Sport 4x4: **R854,990**
- Pajero Sport Exceed: **R904,990**

In SA the SUV already carries a **R45k–R95k premium** over the bakkie. Mitsubishi SUVs also sit further above a raw AUD conversion than the Triton does.

### What that implies for SA

1 AUD ≈ **R11.52** today.

Raw conversion of the new Aussie prices:
- GLS 7-seat ≈ **R806,000**
- Exceed ≈ **R921,000**
- GSR ≈ **R979,000**

That is too low for SA. Current Pajero Sport already sells well above its Aussie equivalent after duties, volume and positioning.

More realistic methods (Triton gap in AUD applied to SA Triton prices, or the ~21–30% jump Australia applied from old Sport to new Pajero) land in the same band.

**Expected South African pricing (when it arrives, likely 2027):**

| Variant (expected) | Likely SA price |
|---|---|
| GLS 5-seat / entry 7-seat | **R950,000 – R1,050,000** |
| Exceed | **R1,080,000 – R1,180,000** |
| GSR | **R1,150,000 – R1,280,000** |

Best single-point estimates:
- GLS 7-seat around **R990,000–R1,050,000**
- Exceed around **R1,12m–R1,18m**
- GSR around **R1,20m–R1,25m**

That would put it above current Pajero Sport / Fortuner money and into lower Everest / upper Tank 500 / entry Prado territory — which matches how Mitsubishi has positioned it in Australia.

Caveats: SA launch is expected later than Australia (reports say 2027), spec mix may differ (SA often skips the cheapest grade or adds a 4x2), and the rand, duties and local equipment packs can move the final number by R50–80k either way. These are estimates, not official prices.

Well.. Fug that.
