Amazon South Africa trumps Takealot in one delivery feature

Just picked up another Amazon package at the local Pargo point, which is a two-minute drive away.

Amazon's home delivery is also great.

Received a delivery at 6pm on a Sunday recently.
 
Yes the Pargo pickup is great but the people are 30%ers. They'll go search for 15 minutes the whole back of the Clicks before realizing the package is at the front counter. Useless. Will see if there's not a locker nearby now.

The ladies at my Pargo point always keep my package at the counter, because I collect it within 5 minutes of receiving the notification.

I distinctly get the impression that they have a betting system going...
 
takealot's answer to amazon is increasing their minimum spend for free delivery R750, and then if you do go over that amount, they show different delivery dates, but they've now moved the delivery fee away from the dates and into a block that looks disconnected from the date selection:

the non-free earliest delivery date is also the default option, so if you don't check, you end up paying for delivery anyway.

another thing they do is that they automatically pick the item with fastest delivery date and not the cheapest one. if there is more than one option on a product and they're both promised in the same delivery date, the more expensive one becomes the selected one and marked as "fastest" (this proves my point, but if i spend more time i can find a much bigger price difference):

bottom line is that takealot is bullying consumers into signing up for their delivery subscription. they're also trying to trick people into spending more by picking "convenient" options as defaults instead of letting us pick or making it clear that they're picking the more expensive options.

don't tell us "support local" but then try screw us in every possible way. takealot can get stuffed.



edit: on the delivery page, if you click on "collect" to see the cost, then got back to "delivery", the delivery fee on the right disappears and you think "oh, they just made a mistake". you then click next and you're in the payment section and you have delivery added on again. if you have credit, you won't know that you just paid R75 for delivery on your R750+ order.

Last week I used The Courier Guy for the first time for a kiosk to kiosk delivery (for a Nespresso coffee machine). R89 from Joburg to Grootbrakrivier. I was expecting mule or ox wagon. It arrived the next day. I am seriously impressed with the service delivery.

This is unethical, don’t like it one bit. But as long as I get vouchers and eBucks I’ll keep using them. But certainly watching the bill like a hawk now.

Yep, I cant remember the last time Takealot hit their target delivery date for me.

Actually, I do, it was before they launched the paid "used to be normal" delivery service.
 
Is anyone asking what Temu delivery charges are for imported deliveries? Fun fact, ZAR = 0. It doesn't matter the value of the order.
 
Just use Amazon. If you pay them R59 per month, you get free delivery on any amount as well as a fairly decent subscription to Amazon Prime streaming. That means that even if you do not order something every month, you still get a lot of value out of the streaming service. I
