I think I may have a contender. But if I just drop it on you, you'll probably think I'm an idiot (I am, but for totally different and unrelated reasons). So allow me a few paragraph to explain my reasoning.
Over the last couple of days I went through most of my playlists listening to snippets that might fit the bill purely from a vocals perspective, but had no "ah ha" moment. I got so bad that I even started listening to some male vocals only discounting Mark Lanegan, Leonard Cohen and Rammstein at the end.
So then I started thinking, maybe it is a specific song and not a general sound. So I went through most of it again, which wasn't a waste of time since I rediscovered a few bangers hidden in the depths of "Liked". But sadly no luck.
Today, it struck me. Maybe it isn't really the voice and accent, but a combination of the upbeat, electronic sound together with the melancholy and the somewhat out of breath (to my ears, anyway) vocals.
Bottomline, I'm about 75% sure the song reminds me of "Impossible" by Royksopp (feat Alison Goldfrapp) which is actually a newer song than Parasite Single's. The vocals differ and is much more muted on "Impossible", the beat also differs a lot but in my mind there are many similarities in tone and feeling behind the songs.
Sorry if it is a let down, but it's not that perfect "ah ha" moment I was hoping for. I may come back at some point with an update, but for now I think this is probably it. Go ahead, call me an idiot. I've been called worse
