SAWS activates Level 4 warnings
Forecaster Sihle Dlamini says they have issued a Yellow Level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms for the southern region, including areas south of Underberg and Pietermaritzburg.

A Level 4 alert for damaging winds has been sent out for areas along the coast and across most of KZN.

Dlamini says there is a 30 per cent chance of showers and rain expected over the far south of the province on Thursday evening.

The cutoff-low will impact almost the entire country over the next 4 days, but different effects over each area at different times. Mostly southern KZN is likely to be affected by the storms, though yr.no shows strong berg winds for Durban overnight, changing to strong onshore winds on Fri 4th.

eThekwini Municipality says emergency teams are on high alert as the metro prepares for major wind gusts.

The coast and most parts of KZN except, the south-west, can expect Yellow Level Four damaging winds on Friday, while a Yellow Level Two alert for damaging waves is also in place.

Gusts are set to reach up to 90 kilometres per hour, while wind speeds are expected to be between 30 to 40 kilometres per hour.

The municipality's spokesperson, Senzelwe Mzila, warns the winds could pose a danger to residents and motorists.
