How is it woke to be more accurate?....If you accurately depict Africa's size, by implication all the Northern areas will be depicted as smaller. What's the problem?

Everyone talks about GPS navigation. What they actually mean is GPS aided navigation on electronic maps.

P.S. I love paper maps myself, but for small scale ones the projection does not matter.

Millions of classrooms, offices, etc have printed maps on the wall, especially you know in the less digital world. We must be careful lest we think the world is all terminally online :)

The poorer parts of the world can't afford new maps.... imagine all the tenders and UN / aid money going to that now.

Is Africa struggling because of Mercator?

It seems to me that the AU leadership's ego is struggling because they want more influence but they also want to pay less and they want more aid.

How were they affected lmao. You think Africa is a failing continent where a large chunk of the population wouldn't even be able to point to their own country on a map in the first place because people around the world looked at a map and said, hmm...they sure are small compared to the rest.

Ask the people around you. Why they think life is hard economically or socially.

This is just posturing and playing political games. AU should be concerned with fixing corruption and conflicts in Africa and not about the map. Once they fixed the former - they can work on minor cosmetics. By all means the kangz narrative can be pushed if they wish.

Its what politicians do. Always trying to appear busy to justify their jobs so the masses don't revolt and kill them, but all that happens is more money needed to rename things and reprint things and more red tape from all the new laws made to protect the politicians from the masses.
 
To some of us the UN is clearly a criminal org. at heart, but it's still doing much positive work as well. The many people involved in their structure are mostly going to be well meaning innocents.

I'm happy enough to accept the improvement (partial) and ignore the "save muh Africa" part, it's not going to start any war.
 
The funniest thing is that the new map is not even an accurate representation at all. Africa is not stretched like that on a globe.

In Mercator, the entire middle is accurate with the top and bottom being inaccurate.

Do you use GPS navigation?....would you be happy if your Google maps was inaccurate and have you turning into oncoming traffic at random?

Accurate maps and true representation of the globe is not a bad, evil, nefarious thing, stop objecting to facts because you don't like someone else's politics.
