UN votes to adopt new world map to reflect Africa's true size

So logic isn't a strong suit I see. Mkay, when you look at Eurasia what do you see? When you put the Americas in "the centre" what happens to Eurasia on a 2d map? When you put Africa in "the centre" what happens on the edges? Now what happens when you put China and SEA in "the centre"? How do you cut the Atlantic in the middle and give the Pacific so much area on your map? Is it not kore logical to cut the Pacific in half and give Land mass (you know where humans live) more prominence on your 2d depictions that's made for humans?
Why not? The entire point of this new map was "the dignity of Africans" or some shıt. Not map accuracy at all. Vastly more people live in Asia. I want them in the middle. They're more important because there's more of them.

Why is this map not better? Seems just as good useless to me.

They're now just stretching the hell out of Africa with this new inaccurate map.

Do you use GPS navigation?....would you be happy if your Google maps was inaccurate and have you turning into oncoming traffic at random?

This is not about that. Are you confusing for the world map used in displays or classrooms with GPS?

Accurate maps and true representation of the globe is not a bad, evil, nefarious thing, stop objecting to facts because you don't like someone else's politics.

None represent the world correctly. But this is about ego stroking and waste of money. The AU should be making sure their dictators treat their people well first.

Dude seriously are you claiming taxis crash because of this map? Come on, be serious.

It is a non-binding resolution, not an order to replace all existing maps. Straw-man argument, and cynicism in one sentence...

From the article.

The UN vote is non-binding but will see changes to the maps used by institutions around the world.

Get your stones ready, I'm gonna attempt to get AI to clear up the accuracy factors in question in layman's terms :p

To be honest I don't see the UN as unifying countries. It's an organisation that maintains and manages tbe status quo. A system administrator basically. It's job is to manage all member states to adhere to the global order, even though that order gives outsized power to wealthier nations which according to the UN charter shouldn't be the case. Te fact the the UNSC exists in its current form is proof of this. Countries aren't as equal as they portray hence all the powerful have veto power and some of them aren't signatories to punitive measures or forums. The ICC and WHO being just two.

The UNO originated in the United Nations which originally fought the Axis powers, in 1942 and onward:

  • Moscow and Tehran Conferences (1943)
In late 1943, the "Big Three" (the US, UK, and USSR) formally recognized the need for a permanent international organization. In the Moscow Declaration, they pledged to establish a global body open to all peace-loving states to maintain international peace and security.
  • Dumbarton Oaks Conference (August–October 1944)
This is where the actual blueprint of the UNO was drawn. Diplomats from the US, UK, USSR, and China met in Washington, D.C., to lay out the organizational structure. They agreed on the core components, including the General Assembly, the Security Council, and the veto power for permanent members.
  • Yalta Conference (February 1945)
Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin resolved final disagreements regarding voting procedures in the Security Council. They also officially decided to call a global conference in April 1945 to finalize the organization's charter.
  • San Francisco Conference (April–June 1945)
Delegates from 50 nations gathered to debate, adjust, and finalize the draft created at Dumbarton Oaks. On June 26, 1945, they officially signed the United Nations Charter, transforming the military coalition into a formal legal structure.

Article 1 of the UN Charter:
  • To maintain international peace and security. The UN works to prevent conflicts, help parties in conflict make peace, deploy peacekeepers, and create the conditions to allow peace to hold and flourish.
  • To develop friendly relations among nations. This purpose is based on respect for the principle of equal rights and the self-determination of peoples, strengthening universal peace.
  • To achieve international cooperation. The UN aims to solve international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character, and to promote and encourage respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all.
  • To be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations. The UN serves as a common forum where countries can work together to achieve these shared goals.

You fools are literally clapping for a more inaccurate map just because Africa looked smaller despite...being IN THE CENTRE OF THE MAP and being the MOST ACCURATELY projected.

Why did the Africans who crusaded this shİt, not ask for China to be in the centre.
Because GMT is a thing?

Its what politicians do. Always trying to appear busy to justify their jobs so the masses don't revolt and kill them, but all that happens is more money needed to rename things and reprint things and more red tape from all the new laws made to protect the politicians from the masses.

No, not all politicians do this. Not every act deliberated by the UN or any body is superfluous and pointless.
It's these current hacks who are wasting money on this. Imagine the money and time wasted by these AU hacks and then in the UN to discuss this, not merely at the general assembly but over years of meetings and talks. This wasn't just a spontaneous act where one day someone put that on the agenda and they took 5 minutes to vote and that was that.

Time which could have been spent on fixing real African problems.

And then here we have guys who are confusing this map for GPS guidance and claiming it will fix car crashes. WTF?

It's pure ego stroking by African states. We want more aid and influence because we have a large land mass. We contribute relatively little but we want more only by virtue of our large land size. Ergo big countries matter more. It's a kind of supremacist thinking. It's not based on achievement or struggle against adversity, it's we are BIG! Respect us!

But nobody disrespects Africa because she is not seen as huge.

Secondly, this will cause a knock on effect of mass replacement over the coming years of perfectly good maps. Money wasted to reprint and resupply new wall maps for virtually every classroom in the world out there, maybe not every class has a world map hanging there, but most likely majority do. Those are all tax funds which will be wasted. Money wasted which could have been spent on important things. For what? For ego stroking of Zoomer and Millennial AU butt-hurt members.

Woke isn't the issue, that's just one of the many tools the abusive politicians etc. make some use of. Woke is mostly just distorted by those who generally distort.

In other countries they use maps centered on them. US often use a map where the Americas are centre as do many Asian countries. I suppose these countries hate Africa... and consider her not as grand and worthy of respect of something because Africa is sidelined.... racism I suppose.

This is not about woke. It's the same BS ego stroking by politicians who want to draw view away from lack of solutions at home. It's much easier to vote through something stupid like this in New York where things work, than at home where corruption continues, conflict continues, mass suffering continues and so on.

And we have people here, who bring out 'woke' who live in Africa, who really know how bad things are, still make a joke of this. Enablers I suppose.
