R410 billion and 19 years later: Eskom’s megaprojects to end load-shedding remain unfinished

Eskom recently submitted an updated cost-benefit analysis to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment.

The analysis said that the costs of adding the FGD system to Medupi would outweigh the limited health benefits it would provide to South Africans.

Despite this, Eskom must continue to complete the system, as its loan agreement with the World Bank included promises to use technologies at Medupi that would reduce future carbon emissions.

I would like to see that analysis if anyone has a link, as that "limited" is probably doing a lot of heavy lifting. 90% of harmful emissions is a lot, plus EU as trading partner, this is quite important once they do taxes based on emissions for imports.
 
Ah, but connected cadre and unions leaders have become multimillionaires in the process and that was after all the only objective they had.
 
All of Kusile’s generating units were synchronised in 2025, finally achieving full commercial operation after 17 years of construction.

Despite this, the power station remains technically unfinished, according to the utility’s latest financial results. Remedial work at the station is only on track to be completed by 2028.

Way to gloss over some important information. What is this "remedial work"? Is it because they installed the new chimneys backwards according to a social media post and now all the ducting needs to be moved to the other side and also mentioned incomplete airconditioning for substations iirc?
 
I remember in college when those big load shedding times happened in 2007 or so even at work we had no power majority of the night the august (news paper) posted the milkyway behind the mountain looked cool

anyway i remember Eskom said we the people have to pay little bit more for them to sort this mess out which was thsoe power stations

now dont get me wrong the nation wasnt exactly on board with this but we all played along but this this is rediculess shouldnt of been done in 5-8 years back then

Now its all outdated anyway and you say missing 41bn anti polution have you tried decating the damn thing lol

whats new anyway. oh wait they think nuclear will solve it.. yeah 40 years ago. i think if it wasnt for gas turbine and burning diesel this country be in the dark quiet a bit.
