Solar generation in rain/cloudy conditions

They don't care if it's hanging over and you'll probably not get anything. I've trimmed all the trees that hung over my wall.
Yeah. Fortunately you can see in the pic the tree is leaning over away from my house but its facing the neighbour across the road. I asked for pics of the tree now and its only 1 branch left that is looking a bit suspicious which will take out the electric fence and land inside the other neighbours yard next to me. But overall there is nothing to will land in my roof anymore.

Average of 3 the last 3 days. The 5kW is dead I am told. But they aren't too bothered as the other inverter is full. Without the gas stove I think they would have been more concerned lol.
Yeah the off grid life can be tough when there's 3 days of clouds and tomorrow the 4th is coming. Possibly even into Tuesday.

Yeah. I asked them if they want a generator. Was told no. I guess they dont want the hassle of filling it and the service that goes with it.

I would probably have considered adding another 5kW of panels. If current can do 3kWh, then another 5kW can do another 3kWh (more like 5 as will go on north roof). So, days like these would meet the house load without load shedding. But am not there so not spending more money until they say they are being inconvenienced by the multi day clouds cover.

2 young dudes are easy to satisfy though so makes sense. As long as there is TV, can use their computers. They aren't bothered about a dead kitchen 🤣. My wife would have already started with her comments probably and panels would be added on the roof in a month or 2.
 
Any power failures with all the solar guys overloading the grid charging their batteries with their illegal inverters?
My area was out this past week. But seems to be vandalism related. Group is filled with "security please patrol" messages.
 
I'm not sure this is the correct thread (but I can't read 313 pages), so hopefully someone can provide some insights.

We live in an area that gets a lot of lightning. In fact, we lost one of our inverters last time when a strike happened.

We have rooftop panels, and then a proper AC Combiner, 2x Inverters and DC Combiner, with the batteries.

We want to make sure we have better protection against lightning. I tried the AI for some assistance, but while it initially told me to swap the SPD2 units for SPD1 units, today it's singing another tune saying we need some protection on the roof.

Has anyone done anything extra than the normal installations to protect against surges/lightning?

Our area's electricity has been down since 1AM so I am using as little electricity as possible or else tonight is going to be long and very dark.

SPDs help a little but to be honest, a lightning strike directly on your house or panels or within a couple of meters will destroy your equipment. You will never have 100% protection.

Type 1 is better for direct strikes yes. Have 2. One at the combiner box and another at at input of inverter. I have 2 on mine.

All the earthing must be bonded together and at same potential.

But with all this, lightning direct strike will probably ruin your equipment. Just use insurance.
 
We use between 35 and 41 kWh a day with the geysers drawing a bit during the day and most of the rest consumed at night while making dinner. At the moment, I have 6 x 5 kWh Revov batteries.

I gave the maid the day off so no washing or ironing today, no dishwasher and take aways for dinner. I even remembered to turn off the driveway lights (should really put those on a day/night switch).

We should be good until tomorrow or whenever the power gets restored.
 
Today seems to be better. Other inverter is tapering down so hopefully the main inverter pushes up to full today.
